William T. Anderson is a private photographer whose subject is boating. In this collection, there is a good selection of photographs: the Detroit Yacht Club in the 1940s and 1950s; many types of boats (most notably power cruisers and sailboats); and boat races. Also in the collection is a nicely organized and labeled photograph album, which is devoted mainly to boating. The collection offers a fine example of a private photographer's style and method in organizing his work. This particular collection was doanted to the State Archives by Katherine Baker of Bay City. This collection (one manuscript box) is arranged according to two series. Series 1. Photographs, 1940-1950. There are approximately 100 black and white photographs in this collection. They range in size from 2x3 to 8x10 inches. Subjects include Detroit river scenes and the Detroit Yacht Club. Series 2. Negatives, 1940-1950. There are approximately 200 black and white negatives in the collection. They range in size from 2x3 to 4x5 inches, with the majority of the negatives being 4x5 inches. The quality of the negatives ranges from fair to good. They cover a variety of subjects including boating, rural and scenic views. Duplicates and similar negatives were discarded.
