Collection includes three diaries of LeGrand Tyler, a farmer from Cooper Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, 1876, 1878, 1879; one booklet, Key to the Prophetic Chart, published by Steam Press of the Seventh-Day Adventist Publishing Association, Battle Creek, Michigan, 1864; two almanacs, Kalamazoo, Michigan, businesses advertisements for Clapham & McDonalds, Drugs & Medicines, 1875, and H.G. Colman and Company, Druggists, 1899; one soft-cover book, Battlefields revisited, Grant's Chattanooga Campaign: a horseback ride from Chattanooga to Atlanta, by C.O. Brown, published by Eaton & Anderson, Kalamazoo, 1886. This book first appeared as a series of letters in the Kalamazoo Telegraph, 1880.

Title: Cargill papers, 1864-1908.

Manuscripts about the Camp Grant Massacre, his Civil War experiences, the Glanton/Lincoln massacre at Fort Yuma, and an autobiography are present. His autobiography tells of mining in the Castle Dome area, freighting experiences, life in Tucson and Yuma, and people such as Milton B. Duffield, A.P.K. Safford, and John Wasson. The Camp Grant Massacre manuscript describes Cargill's experience at Camp Grant at the time of the massacre and his service on the Grand Jury that indicted those accused of the attack. A 20-page, handwritten manuscript about the Glanton/Lincoln killings at the Yuma ferry crossing was written in 1907 from the viewpoint of C.O. Brown.

The Civil War diaries and correspondence of Edward E. Schweitzer. Five pocket diaries cover Schweitzer's military service from September 1861 through August 1865. The entries record movement of the troops, war news, minutia of camp life, etc. There are also three letters from Schweitzer to his family posted from Virginia (Jan. 16, 1862), Louisiana (1863, Feb. 23), and Georgia (1865, Aug. 11). The post-war portion includes Schweitzer's diaries for the years 1869, 1884, and 1885, the correspondence related to his effort to obtain disability compensation in 1882, and materials reflecting his membership in the veterans' association of the 30th Ohio Infantry. His letter to Jeannie Anderson of Mar. 24, 1870 describes his stay at a sanatorium in Wernersville, Pa., including staff, patients, etc. Also included is a diary kept by Jennie Anderson in 1867. The collection contains the following publications: issues of the Pennsylvania Inquirer (1865, May 25), the Daily News (Petersburg, Va., 1865, May 9), Windsor Currier (Windsor, Henry County, Mo., 1871-1872) and Newcomerstown Visitor (Newcomerstown, Ohio, 1871), and copies of the books and pamphlets: The old battle fields revisited after 16 years! : a horseback ride from Chattanooga to Atlanta / by C.O. Brown (Sandusky, Ohio : Register Printing House, 1880), History of the Thirtieth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry: from its organization, to the fall of Vicksburg, Miss. by Lieut. Henry R. Brinkerhoff, Thirtieth Ohio (Columbus, O. James W. Osgood, printer, 1863), and printed rosters of the 1888 and 1890 reunions of the 30th Regiment. The collection also includes Civil War memorabilia and photographs.
