The collection consists of papers of Clark Howell and the Howell family of Atlanta, Georgia from 1873-1946. The papers include mainly correspondence but also contain clippings, photographs, and speeches. The correspondence (1882-1946) consists of personal letters between Howell and Harriet G. Barrett (Howell) as well as business correspondence pertaining to Howell's editorials and management of the Atlanta Constitution, Georgia and U.S. politics, the 1905 Georgia gubernatorial race, the Democratic Party, and World War I. Correspondents include Alexander S. Clay and David B. Hill. The collection also includes correspondence to Clark Howell, Jr. pertaining to World War II and materials relating to the estate of Evan P. Howell, Clark Howell's father.

The collection consists of personal and political papers of William J. Harris from 1905-1916. His political papers contain correspondence while he served as private secretary to U.S. Senator Alexander Stephens Clay (1908-1909), correspondence relating to his term as State Senator (1911-1912), and records relating to his chairmanship of the State Democratic Committee including the Georgia campaign of Woodrow Wilson for president and correspondence relating to patronage and legislation. The personal papers contain legal and financial records dealing mainly with his insurance business. The speech files contain notes and drafts of two speeches Harris gave while Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (1916). The collection does not contain documentation from Harris' subsequent term as U.S. Senator. Major correspondees include William Gibbs McAdoo, Hoke Smith, Carl Vinson, and Augustus O. Bacon.

Title: Joseph Mackey Brown papers, 1860-1930.

The collection consists of papers of Joseph Mackey Brown from 1860-1930. The papers contain correspondence, drafts of essays, and an 1869 diary. The early correspondence to Brown is mainly from family numbers including his mother Elizabeth Grisham Brown, his sister Mary V. Connally, his brother Julius L. Brown, and his uncles James Steele and N.V. Brown. The later correspondence includes a few letters to Brown from Alexander S. Clay, William H. Taft, Clifford Walker, Lamartine G. Hardman, John M. Slaton, Tom Watson, Hugh Dorsey, N.E. Harris and W.J. Harris dealing mainly with Georgia political matters. Of particular interest are letters written by Brown discussing labor relations within the state. The diary was written by Brown in 1869 while residing in Atlanta. The entries discuss schooling and the activities of his family, including his father Joseph E. Brown. The collection also includes typescripts of Brown's historical writings on Mexico.

This collection consists of Evelyn Clay Everett's papers relating to her father, Senator Alexander S. Clay, her grand-uncle, Henry Clay, and her brother, General Lucius Clay. Included are letters written by Evelyn Clay Everett, excerpts from the Congressional Record-Senate discussing Alexander Clay's bill for "Promotion of Commerce and Increase of Trade" and his speech to the Senate on "Sugar, Molasses, and Manufacturers of," an excerpt from the Appendix to the Congressional Record regarding an extension of the remarks of the Hon. Sam Rayburn on Gen. Lucius Clay, a printed pamphlet of Henry Clay's speeches in "Defense of the American System" which he helped to establish with the Tariff of 1824, and The Clay Heritage and the Story of the Clays by Evelyn Clay Everett (there is no evidence that this manuscript was published).
