This collection consists primarily of correspondence to and by members of the Harrison family in the United States. The bulk of them were addressed to Alexander P. Harrison of New Orleans, La., and some concern his position as collector of internal revenue in New Orleans. Letters originate from various places including Mississippi, New York, and Michigan; authors of letters include Richard Harrison, John P. Bleeker, and Henry S. Browne. A certificate is included which notes the appointment of Alexander P. Harrison as Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue for the Collection District of Louisiana. Also included in this collection is a ribbon-bound, handwritten compilation of Acts of the Louisiana State Legislature, specifically dealing with the John McDonogh bequest.
