This is an artificial collection of papers concerning John Jackson, his spiritual teachings, and his religious mission to the West Indies. Included are essays by an unknown author, regarding John Jackson's views on Quaker ministry and doctrine as presented in his work, "A Dissertation ... on Christian Ministry." An eight part manuscript entitled "Some account of the life and labors of John Jackson" is also unsigned. Also included is a bound volume of copies of letters written by John Jackson to his wife, Rachel, while he travelled on a religious mission in the West Indies with George Truman in 1840 and 1841. These letters describe the West Indies in detail and relate John Jackson's views on slavery and the difficulties they experienced as Hicksites. The original of one of these letters is also included.

This collection contains chiefly the papers of Benjamin Mott Underhill (1863-1930) with some Truman-Underhill family material, including genealogical and family documents, one folder of correspondence, and a picture collection containing family albums, cased photographs, and silhouettes of the Truman and Underhill families. Of particular interest is a letter from George Truman to his wife describing his religious visit to Santa Cruz in 1840.
