Thomas Williams, Benjamin Huntington, Jr., Jedidiah Lathrop, Levi Huntington and Felix Huntington formed a partnership in 1776 to manufacture saltpeter. The factory was probably near either Norwich or New London, Connecticut. In the volume they recorded accounts for work, travel, boards, nails, rum, hooks and eyes for the Great Gate, trying Town House dust, cider, pulling down a chimney, watching the mason, digging dust, and procuring tubs, ashes, barrels and tending kettles.

This collection consists of a ledger (1768-1771) and daybook (1789-1792) belonging to Norwich, Connecticut, store keeper and town clerk, Benjamin Huntington. Most of the transactions written in the account book were bartered. Thomas Danforth, pewterer, settled his account with pewter products. The fees recorded in the daybook largely pertain to Huntington's duties as Town Clerk, such as recording deeds and births.

Primarily contains letters between Huntington and his wife, Anne, while he was in Hartford, New York, and Philadelphia as a member of the Connecticut General Assembly, the Continental Congress, and the United States Congress. Benjamin's letters depicted the workings of the legislative bodies and the political and military activities of the times. Anne wrote of the hardships endured by women left to care for their children alone, while their husbands served the country without pay. Other topics include health, the weather, living conditions, and news of friends and relatives. Additional items include letters to Huntington and his family from his children, his accounts with the State of Connecticut, a list of United States exports, and family mementos.
