Title: William Lee Jenks papers, 1820-1928.

Collection includes letters, journals, titles to land in Michigan, scrapbooks, miscellanea of Michigan history. Born in St. Clair, Mich., Dec. 27, 1856 son of Bela W. Jenks who came from Crown Point, N.Y. He grade from St. Clair High School in 1873. In 1878 grad. from U. of M. Received honorary degree of M.A. from U. of M. in 1915. In 1879 entered law office of Brown & Farrand in Port Huron and admitted to the Bar. In 1880 formed a partnership with Jeremiah W. Jenks, a cousin. In 1882 formed partnership with B.G. Farrand later with Lincoln Avery and Patrick Phillips. In 1912 wrote a history of St. Clair county. Was president of the Mich. Hist. Comm., Mich, Hist. Soc., St. Clair Pioneer Society, Sons of the Am. Rev., vice pres. Mich. Arts Assoc. In 1895 obtained an amendment to the Port Huron City Charter to set up a public library and obtained a donation from the Carnegie fund for the building. He was an official in a number of banking, trust and loan cots and wrote a history of banking in the state. His wife, Margaret, died in 1924. He left a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth J.
