Collection consists primarily of over 100 loose-leaf notebooks containing published and unpublished articles, photos, clippings, and notes on women. Prehistoric woman as priestess, midwife, and originator of culture is featured in the collection, which contains an extensive section on native American women. Included is correspondence with Mary Milbank Brown, as well as Brown's notes, outlines, and unpublished writings, most concerning matriarchy and patriarchy; correspondence with Mary Ritter Beard and some of her writings; correspondence concerning the World Center for Women's Archives; and plans to correct the treatment of women in the Encyclopedia Britannica and Collier's Encyclopedia and to prepare an encylopedia for women, none of which materialized. Other correspondents include Herma Briffault; Dora Edinger; C. Esther Hodge, editor of the English periodical Women Speaking; Miriam Y. Holden; Inez (Haynes) Irwin; Blanche Christine Olschak; and Doris Stevens.
