Biographical History

Colonel (COL) Robert H. Grimminger enlisted in the United States Army in February 1943 and was assigned to the Company A, 1st Battalion, 188th Glider Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division. He was promoted to corporal during his advanced training and served on the front lines as an infantryman with the 11th Airborne in the Pacific Theater. His combat service included New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa. Grimminger was discharged in January 1946 and entered the Army Reserves after a short interval. He received a commission in 1951 and continued his service with reserve units in Pennsylvania, retiring as a colonel with 38 years of service. He received numerous awards and decorations, including the Purple Heart and two Army Commendation Medals. In his post-war civilian life, Grimminger sold surplus equipment.
