Cromp was Portcullis Pursuivant in 1690, later York herald.
York and Carolina herald.
Government official empowered to grant heraldry / coats of arms, in the colony of Carolina, a region later divided into the separate colonies of North Carolina and South Carolina. Cromp was the first President of the Court of Honour and Principal Herald of the province.
In 1705, Lawrence Cromp, York Herald, was appointed "Carolina Herald" by the Lords Proprietors of Carolina. Charles II granted lands that include regions now known as North and South Carolina to the eight Lords Proprietor; they devised a constitution for their province calling for the creation of landed magnates known as landgraves and caciques who would govern the baronies and precincts.
Cromp served as Carolina Herald, a permanent appointment by the Lords Proprietors of the Province of Carolina.
Christoph de Graffenreid, a native of Bern, Switzerland, founded New Bern, N.C., in 1711.
