Pennsylvania native Charles Wakefield Cadman was a popular composer and musician. He showed early musical ability, and composed choral works, sonatas, vocal works, and works for diverse instruments; his breakthrough came in researching Native American Indian music. He incorporated Native American musical themes into his music, and went on extensive lecture-recital tours with a Native American singer, Tsianina Redfeather. He moved to California to study music, and went on to write popular songs and opera.
