Justice of the Peace and New Jersey state legislator, of Stafford Township, Monmouth (later Ocean) County, at a time when Stafford Township also included most or all of present day Eagleswood, Ocean and Union Townships; born in 1759; served in the New Jersey Legislative Council from Monmouth County, 1810-1811 and 1813-1821; died in 1829 and was buried in the old Baptist churchyard at Manahawkin, Stafford Township.
Silas Crane (1759-1829) of Ocean County, New Jersey, was a tax collector of Little Egg Harbor Township, a member of the State Council and a justice of the peace in Stafford Township. He served in both the Continental Army and the State Militia as a private, and was wounded in the Revolution. Silas Crane was the son of Mary and Nathan Crane, Sr., and in 1777 he married Zipporia Haywood (d. 1849).
