Biographical History

Burdell "Bud" Winter (1925-1945) was a native of Schenectady, N.Y. He volunteered for the U.S. Armyʹs ski troops in 1943. At Camp Hale, Colo. Winter was assigned to the 10th Mountain Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop and played an important role in the 10th Reconʹs historic trek from Leadville to Aspen. In 1944, he received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and joined Company M, 85th Infantry Regiment. Burdell was killed in action in Italy on April 14, 1945 and was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star medal for heroic achievement.
