Biographical History
Hyman David Blum was a Latvian immigrant trained as a blacksmith. In 1908, he started a business in Pittsburgh, manufacturing functional and ornamental objects of wrought iron and other metals. Hyman's sons, Louis, Max, and Harry worked for the company and it was renamed Hyman Blum Company and later Blumcraft Company. Blumcraft has designed and installed architectural elements of wrought iron and aluminum in buildings all over the world, ranging from residences to religious and educational institutions to commercial and government buildings. For a short time in the 1930s, the company also produced a line of aluminum giftware. The company is located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.
