Jack Werner Stauffacher has been the owner and operator of Greenwood Press since 1936, first in San Mateo, California, and then in San Francisco. In the 1950's he studied with master printers in Florence, Italy, for three years, under the auspices of a Fulbright Foundation grant. In addition to fine printing he has also designed books and typefaces, and taught at Carnegie Mellon University and the San Francisco Art Institute. He served as the typographic director for Stanford University Press.
