Biographical History
Incorporated in 1898 under the laws of the state of Colorado, the company operated a line from Denver, Colorado to Texline, Texas. It was controlled by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad Company, owners of a majority of its capital stock.
Incorporated in 1898 to take over through foreclosure Union Pacific Denver and Gulf Railway and Denver, Leadville, and Gunnison Railway; operated as independent company for 10 years. Acquired by Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company in 1908.
The Colorado and Southern Railway was incorporated in 1898 in Colorado. In 1908 the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company acquired a majority of the capital stock.
1915 March 1 - First agreement between ATSF and C&S Railroads.
1918 Oct.1 - Informal “Double Track Agreement” reached.
1926 Mar. 27 - Agreement reached between Colorado and Southern and the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company. (Burlington Agreement)
1936 Feb. 26 - Formal “Double Track Agreement” signed.
1937 March 8 - “Double Track Agreement” approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission.
1940 March 1 - First agreement expires. Extended by letter of agreement.
