The Department of Physiology and Biophysics was established in 1965 and is a joint health sciences department administered by the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at UAB. Drs. Leon and Charlotte Schneyer held appointments in the Department. Dr. Charlotte Schneyer served as principle investigator on a career award grant from 1976 to the time of her death in 1992. The grant had first been awarded to her husband Dr. Leon Schneyer, who died in 1976, in 1964. Dr. Charlotte Schneyer also served as director of the Laboratory of Exocrine Physiology from 1976 yo 1992.
The Department of Physiology and Biophysics was established in 1965 and is a joint health sciences department administered by the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. Drs. Leon and Charlotte Schneyer held appointments in the Department. In 1964, Dr. Leon Schneyer received a career award grant from the National Institutes of Health to study salivary glands. He served as principle investigator on this grant until his death in 1976. After 1969, he conducted research for the grant through the Laboratory of Exocrine Physiology of which he was director. After Schneyer's death in 1976, his widow, Dr. Charlotte Schneyer, became director of the Laboratory of Exocrine Physiology and principle investigator on the salivary glands grant. She held those responsibilities until her death in 1992.
