Hilton, Helen LeBaron.

Home economics teacher and administrator. Helen LeBaron Hilton was born February 28, 1910 in Morrisville, Vermont, the only child of W.I. and Ida (Norton) LeBaron. She received the B.S. degree, University of Vermont 1932, M.S. degree, Cornell University 1938, and Ph. D. degree, University of Chicago, 1964. Hilton taught high school home economics for three years at the Enosburg Falls High School, Vermont. Then she worked for three years as assistant supervisor of home economics education in the Vermont State Department of Education. Hilton was later appointed assistant professor in charge of home economics education at the University of Vermont and state supervisor of home economics in the Vermont State Department of Education. From 1946-1952 Hilton was professor and assistant dean of the College of Home Economics at Pennsylvania State University.

Helen Hilton came to Iowa State in 1952 and served as Dean of the College of Home Economics (now Family and Consumer Sciences) until 1975. She had responsibility for the undergraduate and graduate programs in home economics and the state-wide extension program. Hilton was in charge of the ten-year-old ISU-Baroda University project, sponsored by the Ford Foundation to help the M.S. University of Baroda (India) develop graduate and research programs in home science.
