Biographical History
Ornithologist. Graduated from Cambridge High School in 1869. Conducted ornithological expeditions to the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Colorado, West Virginia and North Carolina mountains, South Carolina and Georgia lowlands, Florida and to Trinidad. Curator of mammals and birds, Boston Society of Natural History, from 1880 to 1887. Curator of mammals and birds, Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard, from 1885 to 1900. Professor of Ornithology.
A professor at Cambridge University, William Brewster led the first ornithological survey of the Suwannee River "our object being to make a thorough examination of the swamps in order to ascertain what birds are wintering ... in this mild season."
