Biographical History

In 1931 the Museum organized its first traveling exhibition. The Department of Circulating Exhibitions was established in 1933. During WW2 the exhibitions were concerned with subjects related to the war. During the 1940s the Educational Program was temporarily combined with the Department and focused on topics related to education and to WW2. In 1952 the International Circulating Exhibition Program was established, expanding the scope of the Museum's traveling exhibitions to include Europe and Latin America. In 1969 the administration of exhibitions presented in New York and of those circulated by the Department of Circulating Exhibitions was consolidated into one department.
