Biographical History

The Division of Public History was created in 1996 within the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (WIHV85-A216). It was headed by the State Historian and replaced the Research Division (WIHV89-A677) which in recent years had been within the Division of Archives and Research Services. Moved into the new Division was the Editorial Division (WIHV85-A1849), the Office of Local History (WIHV97-A88), and the Office of School Services (WIHV94-A16). In 2005 the Division merged with the Historic Preservation Division (WIHV89-A329) to form the Division of Historic Preservation-Public History.
