Biographical History
Politician, first U.S. senator from Kentucky.
Born in Staunton, Virginia, the son of Rev. John and Margaret Brown. Moved to Danville, Kentucky, in 1783 and was selected as that district's representative in the Virginia Senate. Served in the Continental Congress' U.S. House of Representatives; and was the first senator from Kentucky in 1792.
John Brown: Senator, Kentucky legislator; studied at Princeton; one of the Rockbridge soldiers under Lafayette; continued education at William and Mary; studied law with Thomas Jefferson; active in the process of securing statehood for Kentucky; U.S. Senator for Kentucky, 1792-1805.
Preston Brown: army officer; B.A., Yale, 1892, M.A., 1920; promoted through grades to major general, 1925.
