Biographical History

Continental congressman, Maryland governor, and U.S. Supreme Court justice.

Johnson was a leader in the American Revolution and a member of the Continental Congress (1774-1777). He served in the Continental army and nominated Washington as Commander in Chief. He was the first governor of Maryland (1777-1779) and served as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1791-1793).
