Eduardo Aguirre Reyes, Jr. (born July 30, 1946) is a Cuban-born American banker, federal government appointee, and diplomat. He served as the United States Ambassador to Spain and Andorra from June 2005 to January 2009.
Born in Cuba, he emigrated to the United States in 1961 via Operation Peter Pan. Aguirre holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University. Aguirre was employed by Bank of America for 24 years, rising to become President of their International Private Bank. Between December 2001 and December 2002, he served as Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer from the Export-Import Bank of the United States. In 2003, President George W. Bush nominated him to be the first Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), an Under Secretary rank position in the Department of Homeland Security. In June 2005, Bush nominated Aguirre to be Ambassador to Spain and Andorra. He remained in this role until the end of the Bush administration.
Aguirre is currently a senior advisor to Haynes and Boone in their Houston, Texas office.
