Biographical History
The Boulder chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic, comprising veterans of the Civil War, was organized on 19 April 1881 as Boulder Post No. 13, Department of the Mountains. In 1882 the western departments were reorganized and this chapter was renamed the Nathaniel Lyon Post No. 5, Department of Colorado and Wyoming. Two members survived to sign their names to the final pages of the Post's history on 12 May 1940. The last surviving Union veteran in the region died ca. 1944.

Crockett Ricketts, Civil War veteran, was commander of the Nathaniel Lyon post of the Grand Army of the Republic. He also was a newspaperman and mayor of Boulder, Colorado.
