Eight of the ten specimens depicted were part of the Grote and Robinson Collection, 20,000 specimens of American and European Lepidoptera donated to the Museum by Robinson in 1870.
The other two specimens were among the 4,000 specimens collected during Beutenmuller's Expedition to the Black Mountains from June to October 1912, financed by Samuel V. Hoffman.
