Biographical History
Christie became secretary of the Indiana Corn Growers in 1906. In 1908 he was appointed Superintendent of Agricultural Extension. In 1917, Christie became the Indiana State Food Director. In 1918 he was appointed assistant to the United States Secretary of Agriculture in Washington and finally, the Director of the Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station in 1920.
In 1928, Christie resigned his position at Purdue to become President of an alma mater, the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph, where he remained until 1947. As president Christie promoted the OAC to both farms and cities, utilizing the annual "Farm and Home Week" to bring tens of thousands of visitors to the campus.
Christie was granted an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Purdue University in 1944.
