The Evening College was established in 1958 in the University's Extension Division to enable off-campus students to pursue degrees. The College offers night sections of many University courses, taught on campus by University instructors. In 1963, the Evening College's academic program was placed under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts and sciences, while administrative and budgetary supervision remained with the Extension Division.
