Biographical History

Edna Davis Jackson is a Tlingit and American artist who creates handmade paper sculptures and collages using natural materials. She is influenced by traditional weaving techniques and artistic design elements of the Native Northwest Coast.

Born in 1950, Jackson is from Petersburg, Alaska and continues to live in the nearby community of Kake. She is the daughter of a Tlingit father, a fisherman and carpenter from Alaska, and a non-Native mother from Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Oregon State University in 1980, and in 1983 received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington. She has taught papermaking and weaving courses at the University of Alaska at Juneau. Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Heard Museum and the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
