Biographical History

Uncas McCluer (1843-1913) a native of Missouri graduated from Hampden Sydney Theological Seminary and became a traveling Presbyterian minister and home Missionary in Southwestern Virginia, primarily in Washington, Smythe and Tazewell Counties. The culmination of his career occurred in Cane Hill, Arkansas, after he and his family moved from Virginia in 1894. Here he was able to unite the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Northern Presbyterian Church to form the Southern Presbyterian Church (also called the "Rock Church").
