Vetter, Betty M.

Betty Vetter (1924-1994) received a B.A. (1944) in Chemistry from the University of Colorado, and an M.A. (1948) in Theater and Drama from Stanford University. She was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1992 from Illinois Wesleyan. Following her World War II service in the Navy, Vetter taught at Fresno State, the University of California in Japan, American University, and the University of Maryland. From 1963, she was the Director of the Commission of Professionals in Science and Technology (CPST), based in Washington, D.C.

Vetter was the founder and editor of numerous CPST publications and reports, which detailed the numbers of women and minorities in the sciences. She also wrote over 150 reports, chapters, and articles, and gave presentations throughout the United States.
