Biographical History

Built in 1861 by Waltus Watkins, this mill produced yarn and cloth intermittently until about 1900 when it was shut down intact. The building and machinery are now part of the Missouri state park system in Lawson, in northwest Missouri. The owner's house, a church, school and other buildings are also in the park. This letterhead indicates that Jno. Watkins & Bros. were the proprietors of the mill. The names John H. Watkins, A. Judson Watkins and Joe B. Watkins are listed on the letterhead. They were manufacturers of woolen goods, cassimeres, flannels, jeans, blankets, yarns, etc.
