Biographical History
Joseph Kaighn was a Quaker from Camden, New Jersey. He was born in his family's home at Kaighn's Point in Camden on August 18, 1734, to Joseph and Mary Kaighn. In 1767 Kaighn married Prudence Rogers Butcher (1728-1818), widow of Joseph Butcher. He was a memer of the Gloucester County Abolition Society, and at his death freed all of the people he had been enslaving. Kaighn died in 1797.
