Biographical History

Rubén Jesús Kihuen Bernal (born April 25, 1980) is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Nevada's 4th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, his family moved to the United States in 1988, settling in Orange County, California before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada. Kihuen graduated from Rancho High School in Las Vegas before attending the College of Southern Nevada and earning a B.S. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2002, Kihuen became a deputy field director for the Nevada Democratic Party. He then served as regional representative to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He then worked as student recruiter and academic advisor for the College of Southern Nevada. In 2006, Kihuen was elected to the Nevada State Assembly, serving two terms there before successfully running in 2010 to the Nevada State Senate. In September 2011, Kihuen announced his intention to run to represent Nevada's 1st congressional district but withdrew a month before filing opened in February 2012.

In 2015, Kihuen announced he was running for Congress in Nevada's 4th congressional district, narrowly defeating incumbent Cresent Hardy. After being accused of sexual harassment by multiple women, Democratic leadership including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on Kihuen to resign immediately. Instead, he announced that he would not seek re-election in 2018; though he would later claim he was reconsidering this decision, he ultimately did not run. In January 2019, Kihuen ran for a Las Vegas City Council seat but he was defeated in the Democratic primary.
