Biographical History

Carolyn Jordan Bourdeaux (born June 3, 1970) is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, she has served as the U.S. Representative from Georgia's 7th congressional district since 2021.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, she graduated from Northside High School there before earning a B.A. from Yale University, an M.P.A. from the University of Southern California, and a D.P.A. from Syracuse University. Bourdeaux worked as a political aide to Ron Wyden for four years, when he served in the United States House of Representatives and then in the United States Senate. In 2003, she became an associate professor at Georgia State University. From 2007 to 2010, she served as Director of Georgia's Senate Budget and Evaluation Office. Following her time there, she returned to the Andrew Young School and founded the Center for State and Local Finance. In 2018, she won the Democratic primary in Georgia's 7th congressional district; after narrowly losing the general election to Republican incumbent Rob Woodall, Bourdeaux announced she would run again for the same seat.

In 2020, Bourdeaux was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, Bourdeaux is a strong advocate for affordable health care, an economic recovery that puts workers and small businesses first, investing in her district's world-class public education system, and developing improved transportation infrastructure to unlock economic opportunity. She is a member of the centrist Blue Dog and New Democrat Coalitions and the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus.
