Biographical History

In 1833 it was decided to erect a stone monument at the southern extremity of Lake Michigan to mark the boundary between Illinois and Indiana, with Samuel Williams of the General Land Office in Cincinnati, Ohio. as superintendent of the project. It also involved Levi Woodbury of the Treasury Department and Micajah T. Williams, Surveyor General also locted in Cincinnati.
