Biographical History
After the Revolutionary War, George Washington sold 360 acres of the western section of Mount Vernon Estate to Lund Washington, a relation and former manager of Mount Vernon. Lund used the acrage to establish Hayfield Farm. William Haywood Foote inherited Hayfield Farm from Lund's widow Elizabeth Foote Washington.
