Biographical History
Antonio Ramon Delgado (born January 28, 1977) is an American attorney and politician from the state of New York. A Democrat, he serves as the U.S. Representative for New York's 19th congressional district. He is the first person of either African-American or Hispanic descent to be elected to Congress from Upstate New York.
A native of Schenectady, New York, Delgado attended Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School and Colgate University. He earned a Rhodes Scholarship to study at The Queen's College, Oxford, from which he received a Master of Arts degree in 2001. In 2005, Delgado graduated from Harvard Law School. After briefly working in the music industry in Los Angeles, Delgado worked as a litigator in the New York office of the law firm Akin Gump.
In the 2018 elections, Delgado ran for the United States House of Representatives in New York's 19th congressional district. He defeated six other candidates in the Democratic Party's primary election and won a narrow victory over incumbent Republican John Faso in November 2018. He is only the fourth Democrat to represent the area since 1913, and the first Democrat to win a full term in the district since Kirsten Gillibrand represented what was then the 20th district from 2007 to 2009. Delgado was re-elected in 2020.
