Biographical History
Steven Alexzander Horsford (born April 29, 1973) is an American politician and businessman serving as the U.S. Representative for Nevada's 4th congressional district since 2019. He previously held the position from 2013 to 2015. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
A native of Las Vegas, he attended the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating in 2014. Horsford served as CEO of the Culinary Training Academy, on the Southern Nevada Workforce Investment Board, and as a business executive with R & R Partners in Las Vegas. In 2004, Horsford was elected to the Nevada State Senate, representing the 4th district, in Clark County, from 2005 to 2013. For the last four years as State Senator, Horsford served as Nevada’s first African-American State Senate Majority Leader. In 2012, he was elected to Congress from the newly created 4th congressional district. He was narrowly defeated for reelection in 2014 and returned to work with R & R Partners.
In 2018, Horsford announced he would run to replace retiring incumbent Ruben Kihuen in the 4th congressional district he had previously represented. Horsford was elected that November and reelected to a third term in 2020.
