Biographical History
Andrew N. Kim (born July 12, 1982) is an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as the U.S. Representative from New Jersey's 3rd congressional district since 2019.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was raised in Evesham Township, New Jersey and Cherry Hill, New Jersey, graduating from Cherry Hill High School East before attending Deep Springs College, earning a B.A. from the University of Chicago, and earning an M.Phil and D.Phil from Magdalen College, Oxford. Kim worked on the staff of the United States Agency for International Development, the United States Department of State, the United States Department of Defense, and the National Security Council.
In 2018, Kim ran against two-term incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur after advancing in the June Democratic primary. Winning by less than 4000 votes, Kim became the first Asian American U.S. representative from New Jersey. In his first term, he co-sponsored an amendment to stop a pay raise for members of Congress and co-sponsored and voted for the Justice in Policing Act. Kim serves on the Committee on Armed Services, Committee on Small Business, and the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. He is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and the Future Forum.
