Biographical History

James Munroe and Company, publishers and booksellers, were located at 134 Washington Street in Boston and also in Cambridge, Mass., during the middle part of the nineteenth century. The head of the company was James Munroe (1808-1861), who was born in Lexington, Mass., the son of James Munroe (1775-1848) and Margaret Watson Munroe ( - ). In 1834 he married Sarah Russell Mason Fiske (1808- ). They had two daughters.
