Biographical History
Historical Note (Intro)Westminster Presbyterian Church of Spokane, Washington was organized as the Fifth Presbyterian Church on May 4, 1905 with thirty seven charter members. It was known as the Fifth Presbyterian Church until 1920 when the name officially changed to Westminster Presbyterian Church. The first church services were held in a rented room on Dean Avenue on February 5, 1905. By December of 1905 the congregation had secured their first church structure at Cannon and Gardner and continued to hold services there until the 1950's. In the 1950's the congregation had grown too large to remain in the old church building and by 1958 a $200,000 project began for a new sanctuary, fellowship hall and educational unit to be located at Boone and Lindeke. Architects Eddy, Carlson & James created the innovative new structure and on April 3, 1960 dedication services were held for the sanctuary. During the 1960's Westminster Presbyterian Church began their Outreach Program to better help the needs of their community. The Outreach Program helped low income and single parent families as well as the elderly through projects such as the Clothes Closet and Food Bank.
