Wagar, Kirk W. B., 1969-

Kirk W. B. Wagar (born July 13, 1969) is a lawyer and diplomat. He notably served as U.S. Ambassador to Singapore (2013-2017).

A native of Perth, Ontario, Canada, Wagar came to the United States to attend university. He received a B.A. from Roberts Wesleyan College and a J.D. from the University of Miami. He became a naturalized American citizen in 2004.

Wagar began practicing law in 1993 at a civil litigation firm that handled personal injury, Hurricane Andrew and fire loss claims in addition to disability and life insurance claims, leaving in 1998 to found Wagar Law, P.A., in 1998 to represent people who have been wrongfully denied benefits under their long-term disability benefits and life insurance claims.

Long active in trial lawyer organizations, Wagar was a member on the board of governors for the American Association for Justice and a member of the board of directors for the Florida Justice Association. From 2003 to 2005, he served on the board of directors for the Miami-Dade Justice Association.

Wagar served on the Sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee of the Export-Import Bank in 2010, and on the full Ex-Im Bank Advisory Committee for the 2011 and 2012 terms.

Sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore on September 4, 2013, Wagar served until the end of the Obama administration. After leaving his ambassadorship, Wagar founded Wagar Global Advisors and has served as a Distinguished Fellow for the Atlantic Council, served as Co-Chairman for Asia with Mercury, a public strategy firm, and as a Senior Advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Wagar is married to Crystal Connor Wagar. He has two children from previous relationships.
