Frederick M. Vinson served as the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States under Harry S. Truman and on the U.S. Supreme Court appointed by Truman.

Vinson was born in Louisa, Ky. He was elected Commonwealth Attorney for the 32nd judicial district of Kentucky in 1921. He served in the House of Representatives from 1924 to 1928 and again from 1930 to 1937. President Roosevelt appointed Vinson Associate Justice of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, a post Vinson held from 1938 to 1943; and in addition, he served from 1942 to 1943 as Chief Judge of the Emergency Court of Appeals, resigning from the Judiciary in 1943 to accept an appointment as Director of Economic Stablilzation. In March of 1945 Vinson was appointed Federal Loan Administrator; less than a month later Roosevelt named Vinson War Mobilization and Reconstruction Director. From 1945 to 1946 Vinson served as Secretary of the Treasury, then from 1946 to 1953 he was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, serving until his death.
