1787, Dec. 10 Born, Philadelphia, Pa. 1805 B.A., Yale University, New Haven, Conn. 1808 M.A., Yale University, New Haven, Conn. 1814 Graduated, Andover Theological Seminary, Andover, Mass., and became a minister circa 1815 1817 Traveled to England and France to learn ways for teaching deaf people; studied with Abbeé Sicard in Paris, where he learned sign language 1817 Helped found and direct American Asylum, at Hartford, for the Education and Instruction of Deaf and Dumb, Hartford, Conn. 1821 Married Sara Fowle 1851, Sept. 10 1851, Sept. 10
