Writer and member of the Communist Party of Australia, 1919-1969. Wife of Hugo Throssell, V.C. Born in Levuka, Fiji, the daughter of Thomas Henry Prichard. Died in Greenmount, Western Australia. Her novels include "The Pioneers" (1915), "Windlestraws" (1916), "Black Opal" (1921), "Working bullocks" (1926), "Coonardoo" (1928), "Haxby's circus" (1929), "Intimate strangers" (1939), "The Roaring nineties" (1946), "Golden miles" (1948) and "Winged seeds" (1950).

Writer and political activist. From the 1920s until her death in 1969 she lived at Greenmount, Western Australia, earning her living as a writer of novels, short stories and plays. In 1920 she became a founding member of the Communist Party of Australia and she visited the Soviet Union in the 1930s. She remained a member of the Communist Party of Australia until her death, with her political concerns being reflected in most of her published works.
Katharine Susannah Prichard was born in Fiji, and lived most of her life in Australia. A writer in diverse forms and genres, she was also active politically, notably as a founding member of the Communist Party of Australia and in many aspects of the women's movement. Among the first Australian novelists to achieve international fame, her writing often explores controversial issues, and provides a chronicle of Australian life.
