Biographical History
The Executive Vice President and Treasurer writes the yearly budget report for the Board of Trustees.
The University Marshal reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and oversees official functions at the University, such as commencements, the conferring of honorary degrees, opening convocation for the school year, and other special ceremonies. Robert Jones, professor of Religion, held the post for twenty years, from 1969-89, during which time the ceremonial mace came into use (1981). Before him, John Latimer, professor of Classics, served in the position from 1953-69. N.B. This history note was written in 2005.
This collection was created in January 2005 as a way of bringing together a number of small accessions that had never been assigned to a specific record group in The George Washington University Archives. Some of these accessions represent excellent documentation of the early years of the University, both in written and visual form. Many are surmised to have come from the office of University Historian Elmer Louis Kayser, who was associated with the University as a student and faculty member from 1914-85. N.B. This history note was written in 2005.
