DeWall, Robb, 1939-

A native of Rapid City, DeWall graduated from Concordia College at Moorhead, Minn., in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy. He commenced his broadcast career in March 1964 when he joined KOTA-TV in Rapid City as a news reporter. In 1966 DeWall received a Knight Foundation Journalism Fellowship for six months of specialized study at Stanford University. He then took a year-long world tour, during which he worked for United Press International and the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Upon returning to the area he was news director for KDUH-TV in Scottsbluff, Neb., from October 1970 through December 1971. In January 1972 through May 1978 he served as news director for KOTA Radio and TV. DeWall began gathering the history and telling the story of Crazy Horse sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski in 1973. DeWall worked occasionally for Korczak before joining his staff in 1978. Since then, DeWall named and edited the Memorial's Progress newspaper, published the annual Grass Roots Update newsletter, and wrote five books and produced six video-DVD programs related to the Memorial. His update of "The Saga of Sitting Bull's Bones" book is scheduled for release this spring. Despite his background as a journalist and world record-holding fisherman, DeWall reveled in telling and re-telling just one saga - the Crazy Horse story. [From Crazy Horse Memorial obituary, 2006].
