Founded in 1930. Organized to lobby the state legislature, and to promote the continued elevation of the status of the counseling profession and the professional development of its members.
Founded in Richmond, Virginia, in 1930, the organization is the state branch of the American Personnel and Guidance Association, whose national headquarters are in Falls Church, Virginia. The organization was called the Virginia Association of Guidance and Personnel Workers up to 1956, and then became the Virginia Personnel and Guidance Association. In 1981, the organization changed its name to the Virginia Counselors Association. Organized to lobby the state legislature and to promote the continued elevation of the status of the counseling profession and the professional development of its members.
