Biographical History

Doris Adelberg Orgel has been a writer and translator of children's books and has conducted writers' labs at the Bank Street College of Education. She also worked as a senior staff writer and editor at Bank Street Publications. Her list of awards and honors includes the Lewis Carroll Shelf award (1960), Book World Children's Spring Book Festival first prize (1972), ALA Notable Book citation, New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books of the Year citation (both 1977), the Wel-met Children's Book Award from the Child Study Association (1978), the Golden Kite Honor Book Award (1978), and the Sydney Taylor Book Award from the Association of Jewish Libraries (1979). She has written occasionally under the name Doris Adelberg.
